관사와 한정사
관사(a/an/the)와 한정사(some, any, much, many, each, every)는 명사를 한정합니다. TOEIC은 가산명사와 불가산명사의 구별, 그리고 한정사별 규칙을 묻습니다.
Rules
- 처음 언급하는 단수 가산명사에는 a/an을 씁니다.
- 화자와 청자가 모두 특정할 수 있는 명사에는 the를 씁니다.
- 가산명사에는 many/few, 불가산명사에는 much/little을 씁니다.
- each/every 뒤에는 단수 가산명사가 옵니다.
Examples
"Every employee is required to attend the safety training."
every 뒤에는 단수 명사 employee가 오고 동사도 단수 is입니다.
"There is little information available regarding the merger."
information은 불가산명사이므로 few가 아니라 little입니다.
"The supervisor requested some feedback from the team."
some은 feedback 같은 불가산명사에도 쓸 수 있습니다.
What TOEIC specifically tests
- 불가산명사나 복수형에 a/an을 붙이는 경우(an equipment 등).
- 불가산명사에 many를 쓰는 경우(many furnitures 등).
- few(거의 없다)와 a few(조금 있다)를 혼동하는 경우.
Common questions
information은 가산명사인가요?
불가산명사입니다. informations나 an information이라는 형태는 없습니다. equipment, furniture, advice, luggage도 같으며 TOEIC 단골 출제 항목입니다.
every와 all의 차이는 무엇인가요?
every 뒤에는 단수 명사(every student), all 뒤에는 복수 명사나 불가산명사(all students)가 옵니다.
